La Casera – Bahamontes shirt
Besides the soft drink brand La Casera, the second sponsor name “Bahamontes” in particular raises questions. After his active cycling career, the famous Spanish climber Frederico Bahamontes became the manager of this cycling team. His name on the shirt makes it an iconic shirt!
La Casera cycling team
La Casera – Bahamontes was a Spanish cycling team that was active from 1968 to 1974. The successes were rare and the only notable victories were a Giro stage by Miquel María Lasa in 1970, the mountains classification of Pedro Torres in the Tour de France of 1973 and 2 consecutive mountain classifications of José Luis Abilleira in the Vuelta of ’73 and ’74 . With the Eagle of Toledo as manager, it was not surprising that mainly climbing successes were achieved.
Frederico Bahamontes
Frederico Bahamotes is the oldest living Tour winner. He won the Tour de France in 1959. In this edition he surprised friend and foe, including Jacques Anquetil, by winning a lot of time in the mountain stages and climbing time trial. Despite a number of high rankings, this was the only Grand Tour to his name. On the other hand, he won no less than 6 times the mountains classification in the Tour de France! Bahamontes was a climber pur sang, who could just shoot away from a standstill and left everyone behind while dancing. Flying over the high mountains earned him the nickname the Eagle of Toledo.
